Gearbox mods
The outer cover was trimmed saving over 100 grams. Also the selector shaft (pictured) was bored hollow saving another 100. This item was extremely hard steel and some effort was required to break through the tough, hardened steel skin. Some fine tuning of the selector and quadrant return spring set up was done to improve what has been a difficult gearchange performance. The return springs were also renewed. 30grade Castrol R is the oil of choice though it needs changing often, especially in the motor where it gets methanol contaminated. The fastenings have been necked and lightened. Obvious in this pic is the hollow gear lever shaft. The original kickstart has been blanked with an aluminium blanking plug. The entire kickstart return mechanism along with spring peg has been removed. Even the ratchet is gone and the sleeve has been replaced with a plain 7075 T6 item. The clutch pushrod bush which locates in the mainshaft was remade using 7075 alloy. This item is commonly overlooked and renewing it improves clutch feel amazingly well.
