Comp3, 1/8th mile night drags

Comp saw Excalibur searching for more traction. Normally traction isnt a problem, but an upgraded clutch highlighted a new issue, a traction/grip deficit at launch. The first warmup run reveiled some clutchslip which was quickly sorted with additional spring pressure. Subsequent runs had the tire breaking loose and spinning up.
The first elimination run saw a 7.6ET from a 7.2 dial in, making Excalibur easy meat for Greg Pratts' Vrod Destroyer. Initial spin up, then the front lifted a few inches, made for an exiting ride!.
The issue of traction started because the clutch had been upgraded with a Norman Hyde 7plate set. It appears that because of the clutch extra bite, the tire traction wasn't enough. By the time we figured out what was going on, it was the last run of the night. Tire pressure was reduced to 14psi and the last "racer return" run against Mike Drennans awesome record holding 1860cc A/PCB Harley gave Excalibur an easy 7.3ET. I was careful not to go too quick and "break out" of the dial in time as that would have meant instant lose.
To summarize, the launch feels the best it has been, and I'm quietly optimistic of an improvement in ET from the best 11.3 over the 1/4.
Next event is the Nats round 3 at Taupo. I've not run there, but as I'm currently leading the series.....

  1. Hi!
I've been following you guys from last winter, excellent job! I megasquirted my 750cc NRE Triumph last winter so I feel your pain. I got around tach issues by taking the signal from Boyer sensors and filtered it in the MS-Extra code I was using. In my experience alpha-N is the way to go.
Thanks for the excellent blog! Cheers, Antti
