It was a fabulous sunny day for round 3 of the Nationals at Taupo's dragstrip. The track is at a higher altitude of 1500 metres. Talk was that times would typically be off by .3 seconds from those at Meremere.
Politics played a part with some racers choosing to attend alternative drag racing at Tokoroa, some 65kms away.
Excalibur entered the event with a lead in the championship of 41 points over Greg Pratts Vrod destroyer. Greg didn't show up for the event!
Times looked to be slower until the final against Bill Hamiltons' turbo Hyabusa. In this run the bike achieved its' best ever ET of 11.32 but Bill went one better. He bettered his index by .2 and overtook the Triumph just metres from the finish, doing nearly 169mph!
Next planned event is Comp4 at Meremere. Excalibur sits in 2nd place with a mathematical chance of a series win. Focus is on the Nats series, 2 weeks later where team Excalibur leads the points.
A few tweaks to get better times is under consideration.
