Reversed head ...considerations

Reversing the head so the carbs face forward really looks the biz and was popular for dragsters during the 70's. One drawback is that it runs poorly at light throttle, even at low speeds. I believe the air pressure plays havoc with the mixture.
The barrel bolts on the same as always though because of good quality cams, the oil feed is blanked off. During this period, the factory was nitride hardening the camshafts, so no extra feed is required. A considerable weight saving was made by removing the barrel fins!
Methanol runs exceptionally cool and is a lifesaver for oldschool motors.
The head simply bolts on in the reversed position as all the headbolts align properly.
On our engine we omitted the pushrod towers and plugged the drain holes in the follower blocks. The top end has no dedicated oil feed and relies on one drop of Castrol R per valve, per run.
Naturally the camshaft positions are swapped. The T140 inlet is now at the front. This is a cam profile originally developed by BSA for the revered Spitfire. The exhaust utilizes the infamous 3134 grind from a 650 Bonnie inlet... (yes, that's right "inlet"). Appropriate followers of correct radius are employed for each specific cam.
